Pulmonary Function Test (PFT)
A Pulmonary Function Test (PFT) is a non-invasive diagnostic test that evaluates how well your lungs are functioning. At Dr. Shweta Gargiya's Pulmonology Clinic, we use advanced pulmonary function testing to diagnose, monitor, and manage a wide range of respiratory conditions, including asthma, COPD, pulmonary fibrosis, and other lung disorders.
Our comprehensive lung function assessment measures lung capacity, airflow, and breathing efficiency, helping identify respiratory problems at an early stage and determine the severity of lung disease. These accurate test results enable us to create personalized treatment plans, monitor disease progression, and evaluate the effectiveness of ongoing therapy.
When Should You Consider a Pulmonary Function Test (PFT)?
A Pulmonary Function Test (PFT) is recommended if you have persistent breathing problems, chronic cough, wheezing, or unexplained shortness of breath. It is also used to diagnose and monitor lung conditions such as asthma, COPD, pulmonary fibrosis, and other respiratory disorders.
What Are the Symptoms?
How is the Procedure Performed?
During a Pulmonary Function Test, you will be asked to breathe into a mouthpiece connected to a specialized machine called a spirometer. The test measures how much air your lungs can hold, how quickly you can breathe in and out, and how efficiently your lungs function. The procedure is non-invasive, painless, and typically takes 20–45 minutes to complete. Results help pulmonologists diagnose lung diseases and develop an appropriate treatment plan.
